Ever got lost? Or lost someone you look after?
Getting lost is sometimes the first sign of dementia, or the result of a brain injury. It can be a frightening experience, especially for worried family.
Neighbourhood Return helps find lost people with memory problems quickly, and gets them home safely.
The service recruits volunteers to search for older people with confusion or dementia who become lost. Carers of people with dementia can register their details and those of the person they care for in advance of any incident occuring. If someone becomes lost the carer rings a national centre who will find the nearest people who have volunteered to search, ask them if they are free, and then co-ordinate the search with all available volunteers. The service is a discreet project of the Neighbourhood and Home Watch Network, and supported by Thames Valley Police.
This is a free service.
